Dr. Mansoor Day, 90, was in critical condition Tuesday night after he was hit by an SUV that had barreled onto the sidewalk outside Saks Fifth Avenue Tuesday morning, according to the New York Post.
Day, who is recognized for being a founder of one of New York’s first abortion clinics, was walking along Fifth Avenue near 49th Street when a van hit a Ford Escape, sending the SUV over the curb and straight towards the department store.
There were five or six other pedestrians around, but they were able to see the vehicle and move out of the way, a witness told the Post.
Day suffered head and leg injuries and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital.
He is a native of Tehran, Iran, who came to New York in his 20s, the Post writes. He co-founded VIP Medical Associates.
The driver of the SUV has not been charged.
