With the arrival of Earth Week, some 200 local participating companies, vendors and nonprofits are gearing up for New York City’s annual Green Festival, set to take over Pier 94 this coming weekend.

Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! will speak at the festival along with ABC anchor and “10% Happier” author Dan Harris.

This marks the festival’s third year in New York and its thirteenth overall, with planned stops in Chicago, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and San Francisco as well.

“At each event the people find a vibrant and dynamic marketplace of the widest selection of green products, services,” Green Festivals President Corinna Basler said.

Basler, a vegetarian for 20 years and a vegan for 10, added that the festival aims to promote an overall sustainable and healthy lifestyle.

“It’sabout inspiring and empowering consumers and communities and businesses to work green, play green, and live green. So our mission, we want to make sure that we provide the ultimate marketplace for people who want to integrate sustainability into their lives,” she said. “But we also want to make it fun.”

A vegan food court and a wine garden will be in place to lure foodies and and eco-fashion show will showcase local designers. The Yoga Pavilion will host classes in several different types of yoga and a children’s corner will cater to families with young kids with crafts, stories and puppet shows.

“It’s a colorful mix where you can come and have a wonderful weekend,” Basler said.

Attendees can vote for the New York-based nonprofits and green businesses they believe deserve to win the Green Festival Community Award and Brand Award. The winners will walk away with a $5,000 grant.

Tickets are available on the festival website and cost $10 per day.
