‘Cash for guns’ swap yields 354

Some gun-toting New Yorkers walked away with a few extra bucks to use for holiday shopping this weekend. At a “Cash for Guns” event Saturday, cops pulled in 354 firearms with no questions asked.

The NYPD and the National Action Network joined together to offer money to get guns off the street. Commissioner Raymond Kelly and Reverend Al Sharpton stationed themselves in two Harlem churches, swapping guns for bank cards and $20 bills throughout the day.

In the 10 times the NYPD has partnered with local churches, citizens have turned in 6,539 guns. Saturday, the 185 revolvers, 122 semi-automatics and eight shotguns were joined by three Tec-9 semi-automatic guns and an AK-47 style assault rifle.
