Suffolk District Attorney Dan Conley has vowed to conduct a “no-holds barred” investigation into Wednesday’s police-involved shootout in Dorchester.
One suspect was killed and another was still at large Thursday after the pair allegedly shot two undercover Boston Police officers near 1500 Dorchester Ave. at 1:45 p.m.
Both officers sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds to the leg. The suspect was shot by police and later died, and the second fled on foot toward Ashmont Station.
“As in every case involving the fatal use of force, I have assigned a senior prosecutor from my office to lead a full and impartial investigation of this incident to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the shooting, and to determine whether any charges are warranted,” Conley said at a press conference Wednesday night as the manhunt for the second suspect continued.
The second suspect was described as a black male with a light complexion, a slim build and braided hair, wearing a maroon shirt with stripes.
Conley said once the investigation was complete he would issue a “full and detailed report of our findings” to the public, and open the entire case to the media for direct examination.
“This level of transparency does not, to my knowledge, occur anywhere else, but it is now standard practice in Boston,” he said. “We promote this degree of transparency and invite this type of no-holds barred review of the totality of the evidence in order to ensure full public confidence in the thoroughness, professionalism, impartiality and completeness of our probe.”
Conley also said his thoughts and prayers were with the two injured officers and their families.
“As a city I think we should all be thankful that the officers are expected to survive their injuries,” he said.
The officers were part of the department’s Drug Control Unit and were in the area for a separate investigation when they noticed the two suspects acting suspiciously, officials said.
