A Dorchester man who allegedly kidnapped a 15-year-old girl and forced her into prostitution was indicted by a grand jury, Attorney General Martha Coakley’s office announced today.
Norman Barnes, 28, was indicted on dozens of charges, including statutory rape and 10 counts of deriving support from a minor in prostitution. He is scheduled for arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court tomorrow.
“The facts alleged in this case show that human trafficking is occurring right here in Massachusetts,” Coakley said in a statement.
The indictment followed an investigation by the attorney general’s office, the Suffolk district attorney’s office and State Police.
Barnes was arrested in May in Quincy.
The 15-year-old girl was able to alert family members where she was and they met her at a Quincy hotel. Barnes was arrested a short distance away after a brief foot chase.
Barnes allegedly also lured a 16-year-old girl into prostitution.
Prosecutors said Barnes used the website Backpage.com to advertise the girls for prostitution using partially nude cell phone photographs of them.
Barnes would then transport the teen girls to hotel rooms and residences in Quincy, Danvers and other locations where they would engage in prostitution.
Barnes is currently held on $350,000 cash bail.
