The Federal Bureau of Investigation is offering a $10,000 reward for the public’s help in identifying and capturing a serial robber who has hit banks in Boston, Brookline and Braintree in recent weeks.

The unknown man is considered armed and dangerous, the FBI said in an advisory released Tuesday.

Authorities believe the man is responsible for four bank robberies dating back to last year.

The first robbery took place Dec. 12 at the Century Bank on Western Avenue in Allston. The other robberies took place Jan. 3 at the Santander bank on Harvard Street in Brookline; Jan. 7 at the Santander bank on Birmingham Parkway in Brighton; and Jan. 28 at the TD Bank on Franklin Street in Braintree.

During the robberies, the man entered the bank, took out a gun, verbally threatened the teller and demanded money, the FBI said. In two of the robberies, the man fled from the bank in stolen cars, which were later recovered. It’s not known whether a second person is involved in the getaway.

Authorities describe the suspect as a black or Hispanic man in his mid-30s or 40s. He is about 5 feet 11 inches tall with a medium build and has what appear to be moles or skin tags under his eyes.

The total reward amount comes to $12,000, as the Massachusetts Bankers Association is offering $2,000 for information leading directly to the arrest and charging of the suspect.
