Steve Bonano has protected New York in many different ways — from helping to clean up at Ground Zero after Sept. 11 to heading security at the Barclays Center.
Now, the Navy veteran, who has been a cop for decades, is struggling with a form of blood cancer related to 9/11.
He urgently needs a bone marrow transplant.
A bone marrow registry drive will start Tuesday, continuing through Wednesday,at 345 Jay St., for anyone who would like to see if they are a possible match.
All it takes to register as a potential donor is a cheek swab, organizers said.
No reservation is necessary. Anyone can stop by between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
