In a move not all that dissimilar to Whitey Bulger’s story, Johnny Depp has fled, but not from a crime. Instead the Hollywood star has fled from his role in a movie based on the notorious South Boston mobster.
Depp was set to play alleged mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger in a film based on the book “Black Mass.” However, Depp bailed on the film after a salary dispute, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Depp apparently asked for his usual salary of $20 million, but the film didn’t sell so well at Cannes so the execs asked him to cut his salary in half. That apparently didn’t sit well with the celebrity.
It is unclear who will now play Bulger.
Meanwhile, jury selection in the 83-year-old’s trial is scheduled for next week.
