Man killed at recycling plant

A Westbury man was crushed to death in a freak on-the-job accident Tuesday afternoon at a Brentwood recycling facility.

Augustin Colon, 44, was under a debris-sorting conveyor belt at Emjay Environmental Recycling Facility when his arm got lodged in the conveyor belt roller and he became trapped in a piece of machinery, Suffolk County cops said in a report.

Colon’s co-workers at the plant contacted police around 1:10 p.m. after they found him, but it was too late. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

When contacted on Wednesday afternoon, an Emjay Environmental Recycling Facility worker had no comment.
