A man was pulled from the Muddy River Saturday after he was found by fire crews battling a brush fire in the Fens.

Firefighters were called to The Fens at about 6 p.m. Saturday. A brush fire had broken out in the park area behind the department’s dispatch building at the intersection of The Fenway and Westland Avenue.

While crews were battling the blaze, they discovered a man in the water. Two firemen in survival suits went in and pulled out the man. He was taken to a hospital by Boston EMS for treatment.

It was not immediately clear why the man was in the water, the department said.

Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
