A massive fire tore through a Fort Point neighborhood office building early Tuesday morning, with firefighters responding from all over the city to help fight the blaze.

Crews were alerted by a fire alarm at 327-333 Summer St. about 4:30 a.m., according to the fire department. When fire crews arrived they found smoke billowing from the five-story brick building.

Eventually, flames were shooting from the windows of multiple floors of the building. An eighth alarm was ordered, meaning scores of firefighters from across Boston were called to the Fort Point scene.

A cleaning crew was inside the building at the time, but they escaped through the back door. No injuries were reported.

Because of the intensity of the fire, crews had to battle the flames from outside the building. A collapse zone was also established.

Crews remained on the scene at 9 a.m., pouring water onto and into the building.

Fire officials estimated that the blaze caused $2 million in damage. The cause is under investigation.
