Walking into his new office on the fifth floor of City Hall, Mayor Marty Walsh found someone already sitting in his chair.
“I walked in the office, my mother was sitting in the chair,” Walsh said at a Monday afternoon news conference at City Hall.
Before he became mayor, his successor, former Mayor Tom Menino, left him a letter and a set of keys. Menino did not attend Walsh’s swearing-in ceremony.
When asked what Menino wrote in the letter, Walsh said he had yet to read it.
“I haven’t opened it yet because too many people were in the office,” he said. “It’s on the desk with a set of keys. I’m not sure where the keys lead to, but it’s on the desk.”
