MBTA Green Line lot closed from downed trees

MBTA service is operating on a regular weekday schedule, effective this morning, however the Green Line’s Riverside Lot was closed due to an excessive amount of tree limbs that had fallen from Tropical Storm Irene.

Tree removal activities conducted by the city of Newton and NStar will keep the Riverside Parking facility closed for the time being.

The MBTA asks customers who use the lot to park at other facilities such as Woodland Station.

In addition, Riverside’s outbound Green Line service between Woodland and Riverside will be replaced with substitute bus service.

This applies to the outbound only trains, inbound customers can still board on the inbound platform for service into Boston

Having already removed more than one hundred trees and large branches from track rights-of-way yesterday, MBTA and MBCR personnel worked through the night clearing the rails and restoring power to signal systems and overhead wires.
