Massachusetts state troopers have captured a convicted rapist on the state’s Most Wanted list who’s been a fugitive for 35 years.

Gary Irving was arrested Wednesday night in Gorham, Maine, where he’d been living under the alias Gregg Irving, according to a statement from Massachusetts State Police. The MSP said “information developed in recent days” led them to Irving.

In 1978, Irving was convicted of three rapes in Norfolk County. He fled after a judge stayed his sentence.

The MSP said troopers from Massachusetts and Maine, along with FBI agents and local police, also found numerous guns in Irving’s home.

“He did not possess the guns legally and will be charged federally for the firearms offenses,” a spokesman said.

Irving, who is now 52 years old, is scheduled to be arraigned as a fugitive from justice in a Portland courtroom Friday. Authorities are also starting the process of having him returned to Massachusetts.
