A mega-rich Saudi prince is eyeing new York City as the potential venue for a new tallest building in the world, he has revealed.

London, Shanghai and Moscow are also in the frame, according to Prince Al Waleed Bin Talal, one of the richest men in the world according to the Forbes list.

Right now we are discussing and evaluating the possibility of building a.6-kilometre (one mile) tower,” Al Waleed told Reuters by telephone late on Monday. “We also need good partners.”

He said he aimed to build a building at least one mile tall.

Al Waleed did not say how the project would be financed if it went ahead, or when it might be completed. He said the cost had yet to be decided. But his ambition reflects the growing confidence of many Gulf companies as they expand overseas, aided by booming economies and rising asset prices in their home countries.
