Police do not suspect foul play in the death of Brooklyn fashion designer James (Jay) Ott, whose body was recovered early on Thursday from New York Harbor. The autopsy report is pending further investigation, the medical examiner’s office said.

Friends of Ott, who had been missing since late March, plastered missing person fliers across the subway system and launched a social media campaign to coordinate search efforts.

Ott’s father, Bob Ott, released a statement on the group’s Facebook page on Saturday.

“The only thing we know was that foul play was not involved and that he did not jump from the bridge. We look forward to speaking with you, but now the shock is very real with just receiving word late today. You have all been such great friends of Jay and now of Tess and myself. Words cannot express the feelings that Tess and I have for each of you. We love you all and thank you for your thoughts and prayers.”

Ott was last seen leaving his Bushwick home on March 23.
