Today, Marty Walsh becomes the next mayor of Boston in front of thousands of people during a ceremony held at Boston College's Conte Forum.
Walsh planned to talk about togetherness, listening to all Bostonians and making good on campaign promises in his prepared remarks.
Walsh, who beat City Councilor John Connolly during an election last November, will take the oath of office from the state Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Roderick Ireland. Connolly was in attendance at the swearing-in ceremony.
Also in attendance at the ceremony was former Mayor Ray Flynn, Cardinal Sean O'Malley, Gov. Deval Patrick and former state senator Dianne Wilkerson who pleaded guilty in 2010 to federal extortion charges.
