Plane makes emergency landing at JFK after bird strike

A plane landed safely at JFK this afternoon after a bird hit an engine shortly after takeoff.

CNN contributor Ali Velshi was on the flight, and tweeted that the cabin filled with smoke.

The flight, Delta 1063, took off around 3:20 p.m., and landed about 20 minutes later, according to Flight Aware.

Grant Cardone, who also was on the flight, said seagulls flew into the engine.

The Los Angeles-bound flight landed safely. The flight was met by fire, police and emergency workers, Velshi said.
