Purse thief steals bag during church services

Brookline Police are trying to identify a woman who allegedly stole a purse from a church attendee, visiting from out-of-state, during Sunday services.

According to police reports, an Oklahoma woman left her bench to receive communion during Sunday Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Brookline, but when she returned to her seat she noticed her purse was gone.

Brookline police reported that witnesses saw a woman in her 40’s, wearing a short green rain jacket, plaid shorts, and tan straw hat carrying a bag near the victim’s bench.

According to police reports, police sent out several units, but were unable to locate the alleged thief.

The victim told police she had her cell phone and credit cards in the purse.

The purse-owner is visiting from Oklahoma, and her only form of identification was inside her bag, according to Brookline police.

Detectives following up on the case received information that an attempt to use the victims credit card at T.J Maxx on the Allston line, but access was denied.
