Sex attack suspect still on the loose

The man who committed an atrocious sexual assault in Park Slope is still on the loose.

Cops were searching yesterday for a man they say attacked a worker at a Brooklyn bakery Friday morning, knocking her to the ground and sexually assaulting her after demanding money.

NYPD statistics show that rapes are up 31 percent since last year. From Feb. 7 to 13 alone, cops responded to 34 rapes — up 143 percent from 14 rapes reported during that same week in 2010.

Amy Edelstein, rape crisis coordinator at Safe Horizon — an advocacy group that helps victims of abuse — said the rise could reflect more awareness in how to report rape.

“People are not as afraid and feeling as stigmatized to say they’ve been sexually assaulted,” she said.

An NYPD spokesman said they don’t consider the Brooklyn assault part of a pattern, and they’re not sure whether the man is from Park Slope or had committed other crimes before.

“Just be careful,” warned a police officer.
