A CitiBank in Morningside Heights may need to be torn down after a six-alarm blazeon Saturday left it a smoldering shell.
The fire broke out in the bank’s basement at around 5:20 a.m. on Saturday,the fire department said.About 200 firefighters responded, with FDNY crews on scene bringing the blaze to heel well into the night.
Seven people were treated for minor injuries, including three firefighters.
As of Sunday morning, the fire was under control but the bank was gutted. Two shops next door, The Heights Bar and Grill and Samad’s Gourmet,sustained water damage.
Damage to the money and safe deposit boxes inside the bank has yet to be assessed.
