Residents and visitors to the Davis Square area should be vigilant after a recent rash of robberies took place in the area, the city of Somerville said.

The city issued a neighborhood safety alert Friday through email and on social media sites like Twitter.

The most recent robbery took place in the early morning hours of Friday, Somerville said in the alert. Because of the locations of the incidents, the Tufts University Police Department joined Somerville police in the investigation.

Over the last three weeks, three separate robberies were reported at Powder House Boulevard near Leonard Street, on Cottage Avenue and on Walker Street, the alert said.

Police did arrest three people in one of the incidents and do not believe all three are related, according to the alert. However, the city is urging people in the area to be vigilant.

“Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings, particularly when walking at night, and, if possible, should not walk alone after dark,” the city said, while adding safety tips like avoiding distractions such as headphones, keeping a cell phone handy, but not visible and walking in well-lit areas.
