Mayor Thomas Menino is undoubtedly the best known local politician in Greater Boston, if not the state and beyond.
So it didn’t take long for Twitter to react to the news that Menino will announce Thursday that he will not seek re-election.
The 70-year-old five-term mayor is expected to make the announcement at Faneuil Hall, according to a city source.
The reaction on Twitter was mixed, with people expressing sadness that the only mayor they really knew over the past 20 years will be stepping aside. Others welcomed the opportunity for change.
