UPDATED: Arrest made in attempted abduction of 10-year-old girl in South Philadephia

After releasing a chilling surveillance video showing the attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl at Porter and Lee streets in the Whitman section of South Philadelphia, police said they have charged a man in connection with the attack.

Carlos Figueroa-Fagot, 33, is accused of trying to abduct the girl as she walked to a store with her two-year-old brother shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. The child was not harmed during the attack; in fact, she struggled with the suspect until she fell and he fled.

The incident sparked outrage among public safety officials, who offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Figueroa-Fagot turned himself in to police shortly before midnight Wednesday.

Online court records show Figueroa-Fagot was arrested last year on charges including illegal gun possession, corruption of minors and indecent exposure, but the case was withdrawn. He now faces attempted kidnapping, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, corrupting the morals of a minor, simple assault, unlawful contact with a minor and interference with custody of a child.
