GOP mayoral candidate Joe Lhota wants Democratic voters to know that he is not very different from Bill de Blasio.
Lhota, who needs the support of Democrats to have a chance of winning the general election, released a TV ad Wednesday that attempts to shake off his image as a right-winger.
“Bill de Blasio is pro-choice. Joe Lhota is pro-choice,” the narrator says in the 30-second ad.
“Lhota supports gay marriage. De Blasio supports gay marriage,” he continues. “Both support decriminalizing marijuana.”
“The difference? De Blasio wants to raise taxes and supports reckless government spending; Lhota wants to cut wasteful government spending, putting more money back in your pocket.”
Lhota trails de Blasio by 50 points in the newest Quinnipiac University poll.
