A Waltham High School security guard is under arrest, charged with allegedly stealing materials that could be used to make a bomb from the school.
Leominster Police arrested Jesse Holland, 23, around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday in a store parking lot. According to the Waltham News Tribune , officers found a hatchet and a stun gun in Holland’s car, along with iron powder, aluminum powder, magnesium, metal ribbon, a coil of rusted metal wire, and a small emergency vehicle jump-started battery.
The Boston Globe reported that Holland told police he planned to throw the chemicals into a fire to “see what would happen.”
Holland reportedly admitted to investigators that he took the items from a chemistry storage room at Waltham High. Holland is employed by Command Security Corporation, which has a contract with the Waltham School District.
“This is very concerning to all of us,” Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy told reporters. She was not aware of any specific threat against the school.
Holland is being held without bail on charges including possession of an incendiary device. He’s due back in court Friday for a dangerousness hearing.
