Boston officials are warning people commuting on Monday morning to take it easy on the roads getting to work and school as wet and slick weather is expected for the morning rush hour.

An inch or less of snow is expected to fall in Boston by Monday evening, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast also calls for rain, snow and sleet for Monday before 2 p.m., when the precipitation changes to all rain.

“Some snow and ice expected overnight and [Monday] morning. Careful on roads,” the city of Boston posted on one of its Twitter pages, adding that people should report slick conditions to 617-635-4500.

While little snow is expected to fall in Boston overnight and into Monday morning, areas just outside of Boston were expected to get between one and two inches of snowfall. Areas further west and north could see up to four inches of snow.

A Hazardous Weather Outlook had been issued for much of the eastern part of the state as of early Sunday morning, according to the NWS.

“A period of snow is likely [Sunday night] with the possibility of it briefly changing to a mix of sleet and freezing rain before it changes to all rain during the early morning hours,” the outlook said.
