Authorities from Brookline and Boston University are alerting community members after a woman was grabbed and punched in the head during an attempted robbery Sunday night.

Police said that the woman was walking alone on Amory Street near Thatcher Street at about 10 p.m. when the attempted unarmed robbery took place.

The woman was walking when she was suddenly grabbed in a hug from behind by a man wearing a ski mask and gloves. When the woman began to scream the man hit her on the left side of her face, police said.

The woman’s screams were heard by a nearby dog walker who came to help and caused the man to flee.

Police said the man ran around the corner to a waiting car, possibly a light-colored Honda Pilot, and got into the front passenger seat.

There was nothing stolen from the woman.

Authorities are investigating.
