Wyandanch man dies in police custody

Suffolk County homicide detectives are investigating the death of a Wyandanch man who died in police custody after being arrested early Saturday morning. Willie Jackson, 45, was pronounced dead at 1:40 a.m. at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center.

Jackson was taken into custody for disorderly conduct after he got into a scuffle with police at Peace Makers Motorcycle Club on Straight Path Road.

Police said they responded to the club after getting a 911 call about an intoxicated man who was refusing to leave the club. He also resisted arrest and struggled with officers, they said. Officials said he died of a heart attack after he was arrested and was being taken to the hospital.

“We are saddened by the death of Willie Jackson,” said Terry Hardy, spokesman for The World of Soul Motorcycle Community that includes the Peace Makers Motorcycle Club. “We do not know the circumstances surrounding the end of Willie Jackson’s life, but we hope the police investigation will reveal the truth.”

Jackson was not a member of the motorcycle club, but lived nearby and had been to the clubhouse on a few occasions.
