Baz Luhrmann ‘The Get Down’ home for sale in Brooklyn

Things are getting funky in Flatbush.

A home in the Brooklyn neighborhood that wasused as a setting in the new Netflix series from famed director Baz Luhrmann is currently listed for $1,350,000.

This brick house, built in 1930 and located at 216 E. 21st St.,has 3,500 square feet of interior space with six bedrooms and four bathrooms. Though its listing, from Citi Habitats, boasts original details, such as parquet flooring, decorative fireplaces and French doors, the property is described as a fixer-upper. But it has “extremely motivated” sellers with a price that has room for renovations.

The property also comes with some TV cred, as, according to Citi Habitats agentJamaal Davis, the upcoming Netflix series “The Get Down” filmed scenes there.

Created by Luhrmann (“Romeo + Juliet,” “Moulin Rouge!,” “The Great Gatsby”) and Shawn Ryan, the series is scheduled to debut on Netflix in August. According to the streaming service, the show “is a mythic saga of the transformation of 1970s New York City” as “told through the lives and music of a ragtag crew of South Bronx teens,” starring familiar names such as Jaden Smith and Jimmy Smits.

Scenes were shot in the interior and exterior of theFlatbush house, according to Davis, including the kitchen, second floor, basement and backyard.

The home, anestate sale, was empty at the time, and wallpaper was added and finishes were changed.

“The current owners actually got some renovations from it,” Davis said.

He said the house was likely chosen for filming for its “old school vibe,” curb appeal and location on a dead-end street. Scenes were also shot at a nearby church.

Though its locationprovided fewer disturbances to traffic and neighbors, there was a lot of buzz around Jaden Smith, who shot family scenes for the show in the house.

“Everyone was excited when Jaden Smith was walking on 21st Street,” Davis said.”It was good morale for the neighborhood.”

According to the New York Post, “The Get Down” has previously shot at locations around the Bronx, in SoHo, at the former CBGB site, at Studio 54 and at what was the newly-built Twin Towers in the ‘70s. The Post also reported a significant price drop in the Flatbush home, showing it listed for $1.92 million in March.

“The Get Down” is interested in shooting more scenes at the 216 E. 21st St. property in the future, according to Davis, which he saidcould be an added bonus to homeowners, especiallyones looking to keep it empty while doing renovations.
