Police in Long Island are calling the death of a man found in the middle of a road on Thursday night gang related, according to reports.

Officers said 34-year-old Dewann A.S. Stacks of Brentwoodwas found injured, but alive and lying in the middle of the road in front of 231 American Blvd. just before midnight, PIX11 reported.

Stacks, despite rescue attempts, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Officials said Stacks had injuries to his head and face consistent with blunt force trauma. The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy and police are treating the death as a homicide, ABC7 reported.

Detectives said they do not believe that the homicide is related to the deaths of four teens last month. Nisa Mickens, 15, and Kayla Cuevas, 16, were discovered dead in September; both suffered blunt force trauma.

Authorities also said they believe the teenagers deaths were gang related, according to reports.

Stacks’ body was found one mile away from where Mickens’ body was found one month ago to the day, PIX11 reported.

Police Commissioner Timothy Sini said at the time that the police force was working to “eradicate” gangs, but it would not “be a clean process.”

Uniformed police presence is up in Suffolk County and officers have canvassed more than 140 homes, ABC7 reported.
