Officers shot a man who they say lunged at them with a knife Wednesday morning outside a laundromat in Brooklyn.
Responding to 911 calls about a man wielding a knife, officers encountered Davonte Pressley, 23, at about 11 a.m. outside the Susan Laundromat in the East Flatbush neighborhood, investigators said.
The officers repeatedly told Pressley to drop the knife, but he lunged at them with the weapon and one officer shot him, police said. Pressley was hit three times in the chest.
He was taken to Brookdale Hospital where he was said to be in critical condition, police said.
Officers recovered the knife at the scene.
Precinct Chief Terence Monahan said investigators were attempting to determine whether Pressley had mental health issues.
