New York City welcomed more than 740 Jaydens and 630 Sophias in 2013, remaining the most popular baby names across the five boroughs.
In all, the Health Department reported 120,457 live births in 2013 — 2,774 fewer births than in 2012.
There were also slightly more boys born in New York City than girls, 61,769 compared to 58,688.
Even with the dip, Jayden and Sophia are still the most popular names for children across most demographics. In fact, Jayden has been the most popular baby name in the city for the last five years; Sophia held the top spot for the second year in a row. The Health Department, which tracks birth statistics and baby names, also said babies were born to more mothers in Brooklyn than anywhere else in the city. Kings County saw more than 40,600 births, followed by Queens and its about 26,500 births. Three Most Popular BabyGirlsNames by Ethnicity
