Get ready for snow to fall steadily on Friday.
Snow showers are forecasted to start during the morning rush, and will continue through the rest of the day, said Brian Ciemnecki, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Total snowfalls around the city are expected to be about 4 inches, but could reach 6 inches in some spots. The snow will taper off in the evening, possibly turning to a mix of snow and rain before finishing up around midnight.
The NYC Department of Sanitation has issued a snow alert to prepare crews to plow and salt the streets. A winter weather advisory is in effect for New York City through 2 a.m. on Saturday.
The weekend will be drier, with highs in the mid-40s on Saturday. Sunday will be cold and breezy, with a high around 40.
