Rick Schroder

A&E sets record in Vancouver: Fresh off his semi-recurring role as Agent Mike Doyle in the sixth season of 24, Rick Schroder next stars in the Vancouver-shot A&E miniseries, The Andromeda Strain. As we’ve previously reported, Strain is a remake of Robert Wise’s 1971 feature film of the same name, both based upon the novel by Michael Crichton. In the thriller, scientists try to contain a deadly virus that is unleashed when a satellite returning from deep space crashes near a Utah town. Also in the cast are Andre Braugher (last in town to film Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer), Christa Miller (Scrubs) and Benjamin Bratt (Law & Order). The miniseries is being produced by the Hollywood powerhouse team of Ridley and Tony Scott, and at $15 million US will mark the biggest production in A&E’s 23-year history. Production began July 3 and will continue until mid-September.

Shannen Doherty

90210 ‘bad girl’ in town:
Shannen Doherty is suiting up for a Christmas Caper, an ABC Family telefilm shooting in Vancouver. The former Charmed star is set to play Kate Dove, a professional thief who retreats to her hometown in Connecticut after a con goes bad and she gets stuck baby-sitting her niece and nephew until their parents can make it home for Christmas. The telefilm is scheduled to air in November.

Also around town … Just in time for the Vancouver Folk Festival, L-Word star Daniela Sea was observed by a local enjoying the sights and sounds of Jericho Beach on Saturday.

Instalments 4 & 5 of Doctor Dolittle wrapped production on Monday. Based on the Eddie Murphy remake of 1998, the cast of these latest sequels featured Kyla Pratt (Doctor Dolittle 2) and Kristen Wilson (Doctor Dolittle 2), along with Vancouver actors Malcom Stewart (The Christmas Cottage) and Niall Matter (Eureka).

Finally, the hit USA Network series The 4400 was spotted late last week filming it’s season finale at the cemetery at 33rd Avenue and Fraser Street.

Production on the fourth season wraps on July 24.
