City recognizes core supporters

Several unsung heroes were recognized by the mayor and members of council yesterday for their work in keeping the city centre safe and clean.

As the project manager for City Centre Implementation, Lorna Wallace, said the downtown progress is a result of community effort.

“The work that we’ve been doing started at city hall and now it’s moving over to the community,” she said.

Lily Kwok of the Calgary Chinese Community Service Association said the award she received represents the work that many people have done.

“It’s a recognition for the whole community because it is by working together with the City of Calgary and we bring in a lot of resources to make Chinatown a better place for everybody,” she said.

Ald. John Mar said he’s seen a dramatic change in terms of reduction of crime over the years.
