Il Fornello chef takes it easy in his Honda Civic

Name: Steven Silvestro

What’s he known for: Corporate chef, Il Fornello. Silvestro develops and conceives the restaurant chain’s special offerings, including their upcoming Winterlicious menu. After training at George Brown College and then in Italy for two years, Silvestro worked as a chef at Pastis Restaurant and Bar before joining Il Fornello.

His drive: A 2009 Honda Civic. It’s as white as a car could be.

Is he a car guy? Not at all. I like to drive, but I was never a car-obsessed young man. I didn’t go out and buy a car as soon as I turned 16.

Why Honda Civic? Actually, it’s a company car. Part of my job as corporate chef is to drive to all eight Il Fornello locations around the GTA for quality control and to make sure the recipes are going my way, so that’s why the company provides me with the car.

Best thing about the Civic:
It’s so simple, a child almost could drive it. Everything is just at your fingertips. It’s so easy to use. And the windshield is so big, you can see everything. It’s a peppy little car.

Driving style: I’m not aggressive at all. I’m a relaxed kind of guy and that translates into my driving.

Dream car:
This might sound a little strange, but I’m obsessed with the old VW camper vans. I would love to have one that’s in great shape and go camping with my son. Maybe I’m obsessed with them because they have a kitchen inside.

• Il Fornello will be offering a three-course prix fixe menu as part of the 2010 Winterlicious. Sundays to Thursdays from January 12 to February 11.
