Maine governor: Heroin dealers impregnate ‘young white’ girls

The conservative Republican governor of Maine had a notion on Wednesday.

The Portland Press Herald reported that Gov. Paul LePagewas at a town hall meeting in Bridgton, Maine, when the topic of the state’s heroin epidemic came up about 30 minutes into the forum.

“These are guys with the name D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty…these types of guys…they come from Connecticut and New York, they come up here, they sell their heroin, they go back home,” LePagereportedly said. “Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a youngwhite girl before they leave, which is a real sad thing because then we have another issue we have to deal with down the road.”

LePage’s remarks on Wednesday quickly raised eyebrows.

8ABC explainedthat LePage, who is white, once told a local NAACP chapter to kiss his “butt” and has, in the past, likened the IRS to the Gestapo and called protesters “idiots.” In fact, LePage’s notions are so interesting that liberal news site Talking Points Memo chronicled them in June 2015 using the headline, “5 times Paul LePage truly lived up to the title of ‘America’s Craziest Guv.'”

The Huffington Post added that LePage’scommunications director, Peter Steele, insisted the governor was “not making comments about race” when he talked about drug dealers named “D-Money” and “Smoothie” impregnating a “young white girl.”
