Photography Students Help Curb Hunger

Full Frame 47 is a club at NAIT for current photographic technology students, and they’re holding their annual print sale with part of the proceeds going to the Edmonton Food Bank.

Kat Hawn, president of Full Frame 47, said with a growing trend of students and their families needing the food bank it was an easy choice to make.

“I think it’s hard to argue against being involved with a charity… especially when we have the opportunity to see what kind of impact the organizations have on our community,” said Hawn.

According to the NAIT student association Food Bank Assistance Program, 41 people so far this year have used their services, compared to 11 people who used it in 2008.

Hawn said another benefit to shows like this is the introduction it gives the club members to the professional side of photography and to help get their names known.

“The event provides exposure to our work and allows us to start getting our names out as professionals, which is extremely important, ” she said.

Hawn said that the club put a tremendous amount of work into their creations, from the point the photo was taken to the mounting and cutting of the finished product.

“From shooting the photo and printing the print, to cutting our own mats and putting it all together – each piece is done entirely by the individual photographer,” said Hawn.

The Full Frame print show will be held November 30 on NAIT’s main campus in the South Lobby from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
