Polar bear centre open at Winnipeg zoo

WINNIPEG – The International Polar Bear Conservation Centre is now open at the Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg.

The centre offers an interactive gallery so visitors can learn about polar bears and the habitat they live in.

It also has a research component.

Spokesman Don Peterkin says the centre will also nurse orphaned bears back to health so they can find homes in zoo exhibits.

The $9-million centre was funded by the city, the province and through private donations.
