Halifax Regional Police responded to two shootings they say aren’t related within seven hours Saturday night and into early Sunday morning.
Police say the first happened at about 7 p.m. Saturday on High and Leeds streets in Halifax’s north end. According to witnesses, police say someone in a red vehicle occupied by two men fired a gun shot at two males on the sidewalk. Neither was hit by the “one shot,” but police say the two males were armed with a baseball bat and bear spray which they were spaying at the vehicle.
“What we do know is these parties are known to each other. It doesn’t appear to be a random act,” said Staff-Sgt. Brenda Zima. “There was definitely a confrontation.”
Zima said the bullet didn’t hit any nearby homes and when police arrived, the two males shot at and the red vehicle with the two men in it were gone.
One of the suspects in the car is described as a white male in his early 20s, with his head shaved and wearing a T-shirt. The other man in the car is described as black in his early 20s, sporting black hair and a black T-shirt.
Police say the second shooting under investigation happened at the 100 block of Hebert Street in Dartmouth as someone fired a shot through the basement window of a house at about 1:20 a.m. Sunday. Police say the bullet went into the mattress of a bed and then into the wall.
No was injured, but police say a man who lives in the basement area room was home, but “by luck” not nearby when the shot was fired.
“We don’t know what (the suspects) intent was,” Zima said. “It appears the persons living there were the intended target of this shooting.”
Police have no suspects.
