Portland defeats Seattle 8-3

KENT, Wash. – Sven Bartschi and Brendan Leipsic had two goals and an assist each as the Portland Winterhawks defeated the host Seattle Thunderbirds 8-3 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.

Chase De Leo and Cam Reid both had a goal and an assist for the Winterhawks (33-14-3), who won their third straight game, while Oliver Gabriel and Taylor Leier chipped in single goals.

Branden Troock scored a goal and an assist for the Thunderbirds (18-27-2), who have lost eight of their last 10 games, as Connor Honey and Chance Lund added a goal each.

Mac Carruth made 51 saves for the win while Calvin Pickard allowed six goals on 25 shots before being pulled in the second period.

Daniel Cotton stopped 20 of 22 shots in relief.

Portland went 2 for 3 on the power play as Seattle failed to score on either of their opportunities with the man advantage.
