If variety is the spice of life then PlayStation 3 and PSP owners are in for one mouth-watering year.
Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) gave a sneak peak at its 2008 (and early ’09) lineup to select media members late last week in Hollywood and the key message the video game giants were delivering was diversity.
From social games like the quiz title Buzz! to premier shoot ‘em up games like Resistance 2, Killzone 2 and SOCOM: Confrontation to sporty titles like Motorstorm: Pacific Rift and Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 and the indescribable, yet adorable, LittleBigPlanet, SCEA looks to have something to satisfy every type of gamer.
“It’s important to have a wide variety of titles in the library because then you can appeal to everybody,” said Matt Levitan, marketing and PR manager for Sony Computer Entertainment Canada.
“We’re always going to have incredible shooters like Resistance and Killzone, but then you bring out a title like LittleBigPlanet that is so different than anything that we have and you can’t really classify the PS3 as a machine that is only for the hardcore.”
Here’s a quick rundown of what’ll be hitting store shelves for the PS3 and PSP later this year:
Resistance 2 – PS3 (Fall 2008)
The sequel to the bestselling PS3 launch title promises more alien-blasting action with features like an eight-player online co-op mode and 60-player online multi-player games.
LittleBigPlanet – PS3 (October 2008)
Try your hand at a new genre called “creative gaming” as you play, build and share inside a 3D landscape filled with sock puppet-esque characters.
BUZZ! Quiz TV – PS3 (Fall 2008)

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift – PS3 (Fall 2008)
