Instagram might offer effects based on old, classic cameras; this two-storey cafe in Korea is modeled after one.
Photographers, art-lovers, and travel enthusiasts have been poring over images of Dreamy Camera (“꿈꾸는사진기”), as the unusual South Korean café has attracted increasing numbers of digital tourists since mid-March, breaking through to major art blogs this week.
Situated in Yangpyeong, 50 miles east of the South Korean capital of Seoul, the teahouse is in the shape of a Rolleiflex Twin Lens Reflex camera.
And a photograph by Tumblr user changjeans, picked up by the Leicagraph aggregator blog, made its way from Shooting Film to Messy Nessy Chic, and onwards via DIY Photography and PetaPixel to Laughing Squid and Russian blog Korinform (“Gateway on Korea”), ensuring a hunt for proof that this was the real deal and not an elaborate, Photoshopped ruse.
Operated by a married couple whose careers lay in piloting army aviation helicopters, the cafe opens daily at 11am, save for Tuesdays, and stays operational until 6pm weekdays and 8pm over the weekend.
Its Korean blog is available fromblog.naver.com/pilotgirl, while a Facebook page offers on-site photos, contact details, and post-publication error correction for Western journalists struggling with machine-translated web pages.
