Stabbing victim identified

Police have identified the 23-year-old man who was found stabbed to death on the front lawn of a Richmond home.

Benjamin Neil Warland, from Richmond, died early Sunday morning near Cambie Road between Dallyn and Bargen roads.

RCMP Cpl. Dale Carr said investigators have also interviewed two suspects in the alleged assault.

The 24- and 25-year-old Richmond men have been released from custody while police continue the investigation.

“Both men remain as suspects,” Carr said yesterday.

“Police have learned that the victim and the two suspects were using public transportation and were involved in a confrontation on the bus,” said Carr.

“It has been learned that they were on Bus 41 that left from Richmond Centre at 11:12 p.m. (on) Saturday, and eventually travelled along Cambie Road.”

He said it doesn’t appear the victim and suspects knew each other, or that the alleged assault was motivated by drugs or organized crime.

Investigators are asking anyone who was at the bus stop at Richmond Centre or who travelled on the bus at that time to call 1-866-373-7886.
