The next Tyra Banks

TV host lands own show due out this year

Tom Tkash

Name: Patricia Jaggernauth

Age: 25

Occupation: TV Host & Writer

Exuberance. That’s what you get when you cross paths with digital TV host, Patricia Jaggernauth.

“They say Tyra Banks is the new Oprah, well, I want to be the next Tyra Banks — of Canada. Bring it on,” says Patricia J as she’s better known.

The journalism graduate works for BITE TV, a Canadian digital interactive channel that broadcasts local and international video programs, short films, animation and games geared towards 18 to 34-year-old guys. It is carried on all major wireless carriers and digital carriers like Rogers Cable Channel 322 and Bell Express Vu satellite Channel 530, and has mobile and broadband distribution partnerships worldwide.

Last year, it won the coveted International Emmy for best interactive television channel, and the year before that it won a Canadian New Media Award.

“(At 18) I developed a passion and naturalness for public speaking as well as the spotlight — come on, I’m a Leo — and just fell into this field,” says Jaggernauth. “It’s one of the best falls I have ever had.”

Other gigs that have fallen into her lap include duty as the fill-in host for Global TV’s Brain Battle game show and a past hosting gig on bpm: TV. As a model, Jaggernauth’s mug can be seen in a number of print ads and television commercials: Glade scented candles (“one take baby”), Budweiser and MuchMoreMusic, to name but a few.

Jaggernauth — whose website, www.patriciaj.com, has received 350,000 hits to date — also writes, works in promotions and is developing an eye for editing and directing. “People think that doors just opened for me without me having to work hard for any of it. Those people don’t realize that nothing comes easy in life,” she says.

The trick, perhaps, is to make it look easy. After all, how many 25-year-olds can pay off a car in one go, and better yet, land their own show? The Patricia J show on BITE TV is due out later this year. “I admire all TV and showbiz personalities because they put their minds to what they wanted. They persevered and are now living their dreams.”
