Turnout slips in advance voting

With a second advance vote day held tomorrow and less than two weeks until the municipal election, 16,857 Ottawa voters have already cast their ballots.

In 2006, just over 24,000 people voted on each of two advance vote days. Voter turnout on election day was a record 54 per cent.

Jon Pammett, a political science professor at Carleton University, said that bigger crowds at advance polls “are not necessarily related to the overall degree of interest in the election because they are likely to be people who would vote anyway.”
