With only an hour to do it in, and a host of fast-food options nearby, eating healthy at work can be a challenge.
Kale Eatery offers vegan, organic and macrobiotic food made with pure ingredients — like fresh organic vegetables and whole grains. Hot dishes and salad bar items are self-serve and sold by weight ($2.40/ 100 g). Items change daily.
I choose a colourful arrangement ($12.56) including sweet potato stew, roasted eggplant and peppers, brown rice with leeks, quinoa salad, mixed beans, pickled beets, fresh kale and broccoli.
Two dishes delight: Mixed beans — lupini, black, chickpeas — tossed with creamy cubes of avocado and Quinoa salad with kale, broccoli and tomatoes.
The kale and broccoli, however, though bright in colour, are water-heavy and completely tasteless.
A place that is all about whole, fresh foods should be doing vegetables better than those of us at home. They didn’t.
Healthy, yes. Tasty? It depends on the dish.
