Worker discovers missing woman’s body at Dufferin Dam

A crane operator made a grisly discovery Saturday while he was removing logs from Dufferin Dam, Gatineau police said yesterday.

Police said a worker discovered the body of a 40-year-old Gatineau woman who had been missing since last fall.

Lucie Caron had not been seen since Oct. 27. While police searched for her last year, the search had been postponed for the winter, said Gatineau Police Constable Isabelle Poirier.

The search had recently resumed and police ordered searches at a property at 606 Georges St. in Buckingham, where they believed Caron’s body was located, they said.

“The investigator called the company and told them it was possible the body could be on their lot,” said Poirier.

While the body was found on Saturday, Poirier said it took longer than usual to get a positive identification on it because it had been in the water for so long. Police also had to contact the next of kin, Poirier said.

Poirier said the death isn’t considered to be suspicious, but that investigators had requested a medical autopsy.
