A former Downingtown West High School chemistry teacher has been charged with trading explicit images and sexting with one of his teenage students.

Brandon Mitchell, 30, of West Chester, is charged with child pornography, unlawful contact with a minor and other related crimes, Chester County DA Thomas P. Hogan has reported.

Prosecutors allege that Mitchell and a 16-year-old student exchanged nude pictures and sent over 12,000 sexually explicit text messages to each other between May 2013 and December 2014.

Mitchell allegedly asked the student to send nude pictures to him and a video of the victim masturbating, which was sent, the DA reported, adding that Mitchell also sent nude photos of himself.

"This defendant used his position of trust and authority to engage in serious misconduct with a student," Charles Gaza, the District Attorney's chief of staff, said in a statement. "As always in cases like this where a teacher had access to hundreds of students over multiple years, the authorities are concerned that there may be other victims out there."

Despite telling the victim to delete their correspondence, investigators recovered hundreds of communiques, including one in which Mitchell allegedly asked the victim to perform oral sex on him, the DA added.

Mitchell is due to appear in court on March 9.
